Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Patrina ran into a wall during childhood play and suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
She had a second TBI in a car accident while on the way to visit her mother who was in the hospital.
As a result of of traumatic brain injuries she had problems at school, mood swings, depression, fear and anxiety. Although she did not receive proper treatment for TBI she went on to have great experiences in school and developed a love for learning, music and writing.
More recently her son experienced a concussion while playing football and began to show a lot of the very same symptoms Patrina noticed in herself after her brain injuries.
Patrina is founder and clinical director of Totally Healed International, a behavioral health counseling and training center she started to help first time juvenile offenders and court-involved teens who needed a second chance. She also serves as Executive Director of Crossroad Women and Family Services where she shares resources with TBI survivors who need assistance accessing help.
She believes if you have overcome a challenge of problem in life you have a responsibility to help someone else do the same. Not receiving proper treatment and not understanding why she was having certain symptoms inspired her to help make life better for others in need of support.
